THE John Landa Nkomo Memorial Trust, set up to immortalise the vision of the late Vice President,  raised $13,500 at its launch.
The trust’s board chairman, Jabulani Nkomo, expressed gratitude to individuals and the corporate world for their “overwhelming response” during fundraising events held last week on Friday and Saturday.

He said $13,500 was raised while several pledges were made.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the staff of the Trust, I would like to sincerely thank all those who were part of the huge success. The launch and fundraising dinner and golf tournament was held over the weekend of 22 to 23 August 2014. A gross total of $13,500 was raised plus a host of pledges that were made,” said Nkomo.

He said the contributions were enough to start the resuscitation of Cde Landa Nkomo’s development projects.

“Now that the Trust has been launched, the real work begins. We will be knocking on doors and engaging in other activities to fundraise for the Landa J Nkomo High School projects and other projects to ensure that the legacy and the spirit of John Landa Nkomo lives’ on,” he said.

Nkomo thanked the Senior Minister of State  in the President’s Office, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo, for the support he gave the Trust and honouring the family by being the patron of the Trust.

Last week Friday, the Trust named an 11 member board of trustees which has been tasked with spearheading the completion of the late Vice President’s projects.
