A MAN from Bulawayo who was released from prison two weeks ago after serving an eight-year jail term for unlawful entry and theft has been jailed for four years for committing a similar crime.

Kelvin Ndlovu (29) from Mzilikazi suburb appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Mr Tinashe Tashaya facing unlawful and theft charges.

The court heard how Ndlovu and his friend Bhekimpilo Khumalo, who is on the run, stole property worth $625 at a house in North End suburb last Wednesday at around 2AM.

Ndlovu was in prison since 2009 but it was not revealed in court what he had stolen during that time.In the latest case, he pleaded guilty. “I admit the fact that I’m a thief. I stole the property because I wanted to sell it and raise money to go to hospital. I’m not feeling well and I am really sorry that I stole people’s property again,” said Ndlovu.

Mr Tashaya sentenced Ndlovu to an effective three years in jail.

“You were in prison for eight years but it seems like you didn’t learn anything. There is no place for people like you in our society because you are still a threat to people and their property,” he said.

Prosecuting, Ms Leean Nkomo said on November 23 at around 2AM, the accused persons broke a kitchen door to gain entry into a house in North End suburb.

“The accused persons took one black 24inch Sinotech LED television together with a remote control, one Wiztech decoder, one silver cooking pot, one Philips DVD, one silver radio, and one Samsung cellphone. The complainant made a police report,” she said.

Ms Nkomo said on the same day, police officers acting on a tip off arrested Ndlovu while he was trying to sell some of the stolen property in Mzilikazi suburb.

She said this led to the recovery of a television set, remote control, Witztech decoder, one Phillips DVD and one Silver radio, all worth $505.
