TWENTY football and 10 netball teams will on Monday take part in the Insiza District Africa Day tournament meant to celebrate the achievements of the African Union, especially in terms of sport.The sporting extravaganza will take place at Filabusi centre.

According to the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Andrew Langa who is also the MP for Insiza North, winners are set to get a floating trophy and a full kit.

“Africa will be celebrating a milestone achievement on Monday as the African Union, previously Organisation of African Unity turns 52 years and as Insiza district, we want to join the nation and indeed Africa in celebrating this milestone achievement,” said Minister Langa.

He said a steering committee has been working to ensure the tournament is a resounding success befitting the occasion.

“Before the final of the day, we will also have another final for the Gushungo tournament that was meant to have been played on February 21, President Mugabe’s birthday. So it’s really going to be a big fun sporting day for the people of Insiza and I want to urge them to come in their numbers,” said Minister Langa.

Meanwhile, Minister Langa has congratulated the Heath Streak Cricket Foundation for organising an African Day cricket tournament that will have Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the guest of honour. “It’s really commendable to see sports being used to celebrate Africa’s achievement. Personally, I will attend both events, first in Bulawayo then in the afternoon I will drive back to Filabusi,” said Langa.
