A 20-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man has been arrested for stealing his father’s bank card and using it to swipe for goods worth $130 in two days.

Mthokozisi Moyo from Cowdray Park suburb was convicted of theft by Western Commonage magistrate Mr Lungile Ncube and was remanded in custody to today for sentence.

Asked why he stole from his father, Moyo said it was the devil’s work.

“I don’t know what got into me. Ngaphomb’ukufikelwa nje (It just happened). I think it was the devil working in me,” said Moyo.

He pleaded with the court to allow him to apologise to his father, Mr Aaron Moyo and pay back his money in two weeks.

The court heard that Moyo was responsible for withdrawing his father’s pension money.

In a warned and cautioned statement, his father said Moyo was the only one with access to his bank card.

“My card went missing on September 5 and I suspected my son because he is the only one who knows my pin number as I usually send him to withdraw my pension money,” read the statement.

Moyo swiped for goods worth $130, 36 at four supermarkets between September 5 and September 6.

Mrs Memory Ndlovu represented the State.
