A MAN from Bulawayo who allegedly savagely kicked his wife, resulting in her death days later in hospital, has been granted $200 bail.

Ricardo Staddon (50) allegedly assaulted his wife Kim Caterina on her face and chest last month.

Bulawayo magistrate Ms Adelaide Mbeure granted him bail after he got consent from the Prosecutor General at the High Court.

“Accused person is to deposit $200 with the clerk of court, should not interfere with State witnesses and should reside at the given address till the matter is finalised. Accused person should surrender all travelling documents and report at Donnington Police Station twice weekly,” the magistrate said.

Staddon is represented by Ms Anna Kunda of Dube and Associates. He will be back in court on June 24.

For the State, Mr Maclean Ndlovu said Caterina died at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) where she was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit.

“Staddon slapped and kicked Caterina with booted feet on the face and chest until she lost consciousness at Gainsborough, Barham Green on May 19,” he said.

“She was taken to UBH where she was admitted until she passed away on May 24 at around 8PM. A post mortem which was conducted on May 28 showed that death was caused by the assault.”
