POPULAR Gweru musician Blessing Chibaya, ZBC senior technician Vitalis “PD” Mugove and a well known socialite Ranga Museve died in a horrific car crash in Gweru on Saturday night.

Chibaya, popularly known as Tasarina, Mugove and Museve died when the vehicle they were travelling in – a Toyota Mark II – hit a tree at around 10PM at the Senga roundabout along the Gweru-Shurugwi Road.

Acting Midlands police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende confirmed the accident.

“I can only confirm that a fatal accident happened around 10PM along the Gweru-Shurugwi Highway and three people passed away,” she said.

Asst Insp Mukwende said investigations were underway.

When The Chronicle visited the scene of the accident yesterday, scores of people were gathered trying to come to grips with the trio’s deaths.

The vehicle had been removed from the scene of the crash but the area was littered with its debris, traces of dried fuel and blood on the ground.

A man, who declined to be named, said the trio was coming from a popular drinking spot when they met their fate.

He said Museve was behind the steering wheel when the accident occurred.

“He lost control of the vehicle because of speed. Look here, he must have hit one of the humps leading to the traffic circle and lost control. Even the impact on the tree is too much,” said the man who claimed to be Museve’s friend.

Taxi driver Peter Makanza, who said he arrived at the scene soon after the crash, said Museve and Chibaya suffered broken limbs.

“When I arrived at the scene around 11PM, they were still trapped in the vehicle and Chibaya and Museve were dead. The other guy was ferried to hospital where he is said to have died on admission,” said Makanza.

Chibaya was billed to share the stage with Sungura ace Alick Macheso and Jah Prayzah at the end of the month

Her Facebook page was yesterday awash with condolence messages with her followers writing that they had received news of her passing with shock and sadness.

“Oh my God, Blessing may your soul rest in peace,” wrote Cassia Nancy Mugadui.

Solomon Clint Raja wrote: “Man this is the worst weekend eva (ever) ive (I’ve) eva (ever) experience (d) . . . tasarina chibaya gone too soon hun (honey) (sic).”

Tsitsi Nyama expressed her pain, saying: “May your dear soul rest in peace Bule Tasarina Chibaya Yah this is painful.”

Chibaya burst into the music industry with a 2012 album titled, The sky is the limit and had just released another album titled Zvakarongeka.

According to her Facebook wall, she started her singing career at the age of 10 in a small church choir called Kingdom Kids.

After a series of attachments with a number of gospel ensembles between 2000 and 2004 she teamed up with a friend to establish a short-lived gospel outfit called Victory before joining Called to Worship.

The group was established by Pastor Kelly Rusike of Gweru.

She left the group as she felt it was not big enough to win lost souls
