A BULAWAYO man has appeared in court for allegedly striking his cousin on the head with an axe and destroying $150 worth of property while demanding $4 he had lent him.

Thobani Mpala (21) from Pumula suburb allegedly demanded $4 which he was owed by Emmanuel Maphosa on November 14.

After Maphosa failed to pay, Mpala allegedly produced an axe which he used to strike his cousin once on the head. Maphosa is still hospitalised following the attack.

Mpala is also alleged to have destroyed a speaker worth $150 belonging to his cousin with the same axe.

Mpala appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Stephen Ndhlovu charged with attempted murder and malicious damage to property.

He is also facing charges of having sexual intercourse with a minor for allegedly sleeping with a 14 year old girl last year.

He was not asked to plead and Mr Ndhlovu remanded him in custody to January 28.

Prosecuting, Mr Petros Shoko said on November 14 at around 8PM, Mpala approached Maphosa demanding $4 that he is owed.

“The accused became violent and produced an axe which he used to strike the complainant once on the head,” he said

“Using the same axe Mpala went on to destroy Maphosa’s Huawei speaker valued at $150.”

A police report was made leading to Maphosa’s arrest.

Investigations revealed that he was on the police wanted list for having sex with a minor.

He is alleged to have had sex in July last year with a 14 year old girl. A report was made and he was on the run. — @SlyCee10.
