PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe has with immediate effect promoted four senior police officers to the rank of commissioner and 454 others to the ranks between inspector and senior assistant commissioner.

Of the 454, fourteen were promoted to the rank of senior assistant commissioner, 32 assistant commissioner, 45 chief superintendent, 86 superintendent, 28 chief inspector and 249 inspectors.

Police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said in a statement yesterday that the officers were promoted after a rigorous exercise, which included written examinations and board interviews.

The four who were promoted to the rank of commissioner are Senior Assistant Commissioners Grace Nomsa Ndebele, Rabson Mpofu, Eric Regai Magejo and Mekia Tanyanyiwa.

Snr Asst Comm Charamba said the 14 who were promoted to senior assistant commissioner were Assistant Commissioners Prudence Chakanyuka, Eve Mlilo, Grace Maenzanise, Wonder Tembo, Learn Ncube, Isaac Tayengwa, Ernest Muchenjekwa and Dorothy Kupara.

Others were Assistant Commissioners Erasmus Makodza, Wiklef Makamache, Edward Fusire, Munyori Taedzerwa, Martin Kwainona and Isabella Nyarai Sergio.

The 32 who were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner include Chief Superintendents Doyce Jeremiah, Margaret Ngwenya-Gono, Sithulisiwe Mthimkhulu, Matembo Nyirenda, Edmore Mlambo, Ngonidzashe Chogugudza, Tsibo Ndou, Garikai Masocha, Francis Maserwe, Fortunate Chirara, Ndofandaedza Jaboon, Anselm Mumba, Ndabezihle Moyo and Sydney Thethe.

Others are Vincent Mariga, Sitshengisiwe Mkandla, Panganai Ndlovu, Cosmas Masepa, Charles Nhete, Richard Basera, Gift Hlabiso, Charles Musavengana, Mavuto Maseko, Crispen Chihwehwete, Ali Hondo, Bart Malunga, Cosmas Mushore, Panganai Sande, Wilson Marecha, Kudzanayi Mushapaidze, Thulani Ncube and Ezekiel Munengerwa.
