REDCLIFF municipality’s water and sewer reticulation services are set for a major overhaul following the injection of a $4 million grant by the African Development Bank, Mayor Fred Kapuya has said.

Cllr Kapuya said they would use the grant to replace old water and sewage pipes in the town.

He said some of the money would be used to construct a state of the art water quality testing laboratory.

The mayor said the Redcliff water works would result in council retaining 40 percent of treated water that was being lost through burst water pipes.

Cllr Kapuya said the project would be undertaken over 12 months.

“The sewer and reticulation services of the town are poised for a complete overhaul in the next 12 months. The project, funded by the African Development Bank grant, comes as a relief to council and its residents since we were failing to rehabilitate the dilapidated systems because of cash constraints. 40 percent of treated water we bought from Kwekwe is being lost through burst sewer pipes so this project will result in us saving water,” he said.

“Sewer ponds will also be rehabilitated as well as the Rutendo Reservoir meant to store portable water. The rehabilitation of the sewer and water system especially in Rutendo will also see the redesign or correction of the sewer and water pipes which were laid one on top of the other. So we are going to see the two being laid separately.”
