7 rogue cops nailed for armed robbery.

The junior officer, Constable Clever Ndlovu, shot and injured two detectives who had tried to arrest him at his Chikurubi Support Unit Camp home before committing suicide.
It is said that fellow officers had engaged Ndlovu in a gunfire as he hid in the house.

The officers eventually used teargas to flush him out and when he realised that he had been cornered, Ndlovu shot himself once. The bullet went through his chin and exited through the top of his head.
Chief police spokesman Senior Assistant Commissioner Wayne Bvudzijena confirmed the incident.
Sources revealed that Ndlovu had earlier been involved in a shooting with a colleague, resulting in the confiscation of his service firearm.
However, it is still unclear how another firearm, used in the shootout with detectives, was reissued to him.

Sources also said the seven arrested officers were picked up at Chiadzwa, Chikurubi Camp and ZRP Lowdale Farm, among other stations.
They are believed to have been working with civilians in committing armed robberies in different parts of the country. The officers would then ship back to their respective police stations after the acts, it is alleged.
They are suspected to have killed three people in the process.

The gang is said to have been involved in a botched robbery at Gletwyn Farm where they shot and killed a guard.
The arrests come as Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri and Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander General Constantine Chiwenga last week issued stern warnings to armed robbers and other criminals.

Commissioner-General Chihuri said it was time to put an end to the atrocious violence perpetrated against police officers following the shooting of senior police officer Chief Superintendent Lawrence Chatikobo and a junior officer, Detective Constable Pedzisai Shoko, by armed robbers at a nightclub in Bulawayo last week.
General Chiwenga weighed in, saying the army had moved in to help police thwart criminal activities.

Speaking on the sidelines of yesterday’s Commissioner-General’s Funfair in Harare, Senior Assistant Commissioner Bvudzijena said police were working on measures to curtail armed robbery.
“We are tightening the screws by monitoring the issuance of firearms to members of the public by firearm dealers,” he said.
He said law enforcement agents had launched a countrywide operation to identify firearm holders with a view to confiscating some weapons until the nation is freed from the scourge of armed robbery.
