TOPPICK Funeral Services has opened a new funeral parlour worth $95,000 in Manama area in Gwanda South constituency, a “rare” development in the rural areas.

The Manama branch is the third in Matabeleland South Province as the young firm expands its business.

Officially opening the branch on Saturday, Provincial Minister of State Abedinico Ncube commended the company for expanding its services closer to the rural populace.

“We’re grateful for this development and we would like to thank the company shareholders for the good work that they have done for the Gwanda community.

“This branch will not only benefit Gwanda South villagers only but will also cater for the people requiring such services from other areas such as Matobo South and Beitbridge West,” he said.

Ncube, who is also Gwanda South Member of Parliament, said prior to the development, rural communities had to endure travelling to Gwanda Town to access funeral services.

“The opening of this funeral parlour will bring relief to communities in and around Manama. It will help cut on transport costs because funeral services are now just at their doorsteps,” he said.

“The mortuary at the hospital is not in a good state because the refrigeration system is sometimes not functioning well.”

Rural communities were encouraged to have funeral policies to cover themselves in the event of bereavement.

Ncube also encouraged Toppick Funeral Services to continue working well with the Gwanda communities.

Area councillor (Ward 17) Ephraim Nyathi applauded Toppick for bringing “a rare development” to rural communities.

“We welcome this kind of development which I believe is the first of its kind here in Matabeleland South Province,” he said.

The funeral service firm is headquartered in Beitbridge Town where its first branch opened in 2010 followed by another branch in Gwanda Town last year.

The company’s general manager, Paddington Muzambi, said the Manama branch was opened following high demand for their services by communities in the area.

“We invested $95,000 in this branch and it has a capacity to hold 24 bodies and a chapel that can accommodate 300 people.

“Electricity challenges will not affect us because we’ve a backup generator,” he said.

Muzambi said the company was set to spread its wings to other areas and was eyeing opening its next branch in Bulawayo.

“We’re still going strong and we’re now targeting cities. In three years’ time we expect to be also operational in Bulawayo,” he said.
