POLICE in Beitbridge have arrested two men who are part of a gang that allegedly went on a housebreaking spree and stole property worth more than $9,000.

Briliant Mkosi, 24, of Garikayi houses in Dulibadzimu and Tarirai Tizirai, 28, of Budiriro in Harare were arrested over the weekend in Beitbridge while their accomplice only identified as Mhuru is on the run.

The two who are facing 26 counts of unlawful entry and theft, were not asked to plead when they appeared before Beitbridge resident magistrate Gloria Takundwa.

They were remanded in custody to November 20.

Prosecutor, Lloyd Mupfungidza told the court that the duo committed the crimes between July 13 and November 4 while in the company of one Mhuru who is on the run.

He said the suspects would in the early hours of the morning break into houses in the low density suburbs using either iron bars or duplicate keys.

They allegedly stole 15 television sets, laptops, cell phones, electricity generators, radios, satellite decoders, clothes, groceries, and money among other things.

He said the gang broke into 13 houses and some of the houses belong to police officers.

The suspects stole property valued at $9,000 and only items worth $3,620 were recovered.

Mupfungidza said the suspects were arrested after breaking into the house of the officer in charge of investigations in the district on October 29.
