ALL posts in Zanu-PF, except the presidency, are up for grabs at the party’s elective congress in December and no one has the right to claim ownership of any position, Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator Cde Justice Mayor Wadyajena has said.
The Zanu-PF top brass is made up of the First Secretary and President, two Second Secretaries and National Chairman.
Zanu-PF Women and Youth leagues have already endorsed President Mugabe as the party’s first secretary ahead of the congress leaving the posts of second secretaries and national chairman open for contest.

Addressing a meeting of more than 2,000 traditional chiefs, headmen and their spouses at Nembudziya High School on Saturday, Cde Wadyajena said all Politburo members would also resign before the congress.

President Mugabe, as the party’s first secretary, would appoint a new team to work with.
The youthful and firebrand legislator said no one was immune to contestation in the party and even President Mugabe had said anyone willing to contest his position was free to do so.

“The Zanu-PF constitution says every member of the party shall have the right to be elected to any office in the party,” he said.
“No party member should claim ownership of any position and President Mugabe has even said anyone willing to contest him is free to do so.

“Even the post of the Vice-President is open for contest and all party members are free to express their interest at Congress.”
As a party member, Cde Wadyajena said, the First Lady Cde Grace Mugabe was also entitled to contest for those positions if interested.

“It’s up to her to contest for the post of Vice President because she’s a member of the party. No one can stop her,” he said amid deafening cheers from the crowd.

“If she contests and wins that’s it and if she loses it’s not a crime. She’ll work for the party. If the sitting Vice-President loses again it’s not a crime and the party will find something else for her to do.”

Cde Wadyajena said people should not jostle for the position of Vice-President because it’s the prerogative of the President to make such appointments.

He said it’s important for people to note the difference between the Vice-President and the Second Secretary of the party.
“We can elect the Second Secretary of the party but a Vice-President is appointed by the President,” he said.

“If the President says I don’t want you to be the Vice- President, you go.”
Cde Wadyajena also took the opportunity to give a feedback to his constituency on the just-ended “Meet the People” rallies by the First Lady.

He said the First Lady took a swipe against factionalism during her address in Bindura.
Cde Wadyajena said Cde Mugabe criticised a female politician in Mashonaland Central whom she accused of fanning factionalism in Zanu-PF.

“The First Lady said MDC and Simba Makoni’s Mavambo were formed in the house of that politician,” he said.
“I’m warning councillors on this one because at times you get carried away following (Senator) Flora Buka.

“Mai Buka is not supporting the First Lady and she was not coming to her rallies.”
Cde Wadyajena said that female politician was a darling of the whites and was involved in corrupt activities.

As such, Cde Wadyajena said, they would not allow people with such dirty backgrounds to succeed President Mugabe.
Outgoing Zanu-PF deputy secretary for Youths, Cde Edison Chakanyuka, accused people of diluting issues by claiming that the First Lady was eyeing the post of Vice-President in the party.

He said the First Lady was only endorsed to be secretary for Women Affairs.
“The Women’s League endorsed the First Lady to be the secretary for Women Affairs in the party and not claims that you are making that she wants to be the Vice President,” he said.
