FORMER Highlanders goalkeeper, Tapuwa Kapini who plays in South Africa’s Absa Premier Soccer League team AmaZulu believes his team is almost ready for next month’s PSL games. The former Warriors goalie has had remarkable achievements with his Durban-based side even though he has not won the league title with the team.

Kapini said he is ready for competitive games after a lengthy injury and is determined to take the team to another level.

The AmaZulu captain told Chronicle Sport: “Since we returned from the break our coach Craig Rosslee and his assistant Wilfred “Silver Fox” Mugeyi have done a lot with the team. They have brought some tactical changes and at the moment everyone is happy.

“I can boldly say that in few weeks’ time when we start the PSL games people will see the new AmaZulu which is destined for greater things.”

Kapini and his countryman Carlington Nyadombo played in a four-team Charity Showdown game played on Saturday at Milpark Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg when his team beat Tendai Ndoro, Peter Rio Moyo and Energy Murambadoro’s Mpumalanga Black Aces 2-1 in a fiercely contested match but both were on the bench when they lost 2-0 to Bloemfontein Celtic who eventually won the cup.

Kapini who has eight months left in his contract and hopes to start negotiating for a new deal was thrilled by his team’s performance even though they lost.
