The committee will be chaired by Mr Denford Chirindo, a legal practitioner while Ms Teresa Pearl Mugadza will be his deputy.

According to elections roadmap timelines, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission appointment should be done within 30 days from Wednesday this week.
In separate interviews this week, Justice and Legal Affairs Minister Patrick Chinamasa and Clerk of Parliament Mr Austin Zvoma confirmed the adoption of President Mugabe’s recommended commissioners.
It has also emerged that Speaker of the House of Assembly Mr Lovemore Moyo misled the nation when he said the SROC recommended the names to President Mugabe.

According to Section 100k (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, the President has the prerogative of appointing members of the anti-corruption commission.
The other commissions like the Human Rights Commission, Zimbabwe Media Commission and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission are the only commissions that are recommended by the SROC.
“I can confirm that the SROC has accepted the names of the people that President Mugabe recommended.

“It is the President who recommends names to the SROC not the other way round,” Minister Chinamasa said.
Mr Zvoma said: “The SROC has given concurrence to the names that were submitted by the President. The SROC has not objected to the nominations.
“The Speaker of the House of Assembly (Mr Lovemore Moyo) has since communicated with His Excellency (President Mugabe) in writing on the latest development.”

He said the concurrence by the SROC now paves way for the President to appoint the commissioners.
It is understood that the GPA principals also agreed to the recommended commissioners.

Sources told The Herald that Minister Chinamasa had consultations with President Mugabe, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara over the appointments.
“The other Principals agreed to recommend to President Mugabe the appointment of the commissioners.”

Other members of the commission include Mr Shepherd Gwasira who is a retired senior police officer, Dr Elita Tinotenda Sakupwanya, a retired diplomat and Mr Lakayana Chabaka Keith Dube, a retired educationist.
Dr Goodwill Shana, a religious leader, Mr Zivanai Zed Rusike, Mrs Annah Colletah Chitsike and Mr Emmanuel Chimwanda are the other members of the committee.
