AN organisation representing the interests of Apostolic and Zionist churches is mulling establishing its own theological college in a move aimed at preserving the dignity of the sects.

The Union for Development of Apostolic Churches in Zimbabwe (UDACIZA) said the absence of theology on the Apostolic and Zionist churches had resulted in such churches being looked down upon by members of the society. UDACIZA programmes manager Reverend Innocent Chitanda said the theology college would target young apostolic members who will be coached to speak and defend their beliefs authoritatively.

“You’ll realise that most of the literature being written by theologians has nothing about Apostolic and Zionist Churches. Our churches are constantly being referred to as sects which according to us isn’t a good word because we’re also part of the Christian community,” he said.

“What we need to do as UDACIZA is to enhance the dignity of the Apostolic and Zionist Churches so that they’ve confidence. However, to boost that confidence we must build it from somewhere, hence the need to start our own theological college ,” he said.

Rev Chitanda said they were trying as UDACIZA to build the morality of the younger generation so that they are not apologetic about their beliefs. He said consultations were already underway among indigenous churches where a curriculum would be drafted to pave way for the establishment of the college.

The UDACIZA programmes manager, however, could not be drawn into revealing the timelines when the college would be established.
