THE Zimbabwe Miners’ Federation (ZMF) has entered into an agreement with a local engineering firm, Matabeleland Engineering, to supply gold milling equipment to small-scale miners on zero deposit.

The move is part of efforts by the federation to empower small-scale miners through provision of equipment.

The federation’s president Appolonia Munzverengwi told Business Chronicle that under the deal, Matabeleland Engineering would release seven gold milling plants worth between $40,000 and $50,000 each to small-scale miners on zero deposit.

She said a complete processing plant consists of a crusher, a conveyor belt, a ball mill and a separator.

Munzverengwi said the federation was targeting gold miners that had a history of high production and the first beneficiary will be Peace Mine in Silobela.

The mine is a model for small-scale mining in the country producing an average of five kilogrammes of gold per month.

“We’ve engaged an engineering company that manufactures gold milling plant equipment and it agreed to provide milling plants on zero deposit. This shows that we’ve companies in Zimbabwe that are keen on supporting Zim-Asset,” said Munzverengwi.

Efforts by the federation come at a time when gold production by small-scale miners has doubled compared to last year.
