TWO brothers from Gweru have been arrested after they hit a patron thrice on the head with a log and stabbed him once with a knife in a beer brawl.

The duo, Mangarai, 33, and Christopher Svinurai, 25, both from Shongamiti Mine in Gweru appeared on initial remand before Gweru Magistrate Judith Taruvinga facing attempted murder charges.

They were not asked to plead and were remanded in custody to June 13.

Prosecuting, Langton Magara, said on May 28 at around 9PM, the two brothers were drinking beer at Khali Beer Hall with their friends.

The court heard that Benny Sibanda then approached them and slapped Mangarai once on his face.

Reasons of his actions were not stated in court.

“The two then asked him why he had assaulted him and they exchanged words leading to a fight and the beer hall security guard ordered the trio to go and solve their matters outside,” said Magara.

“While outside the beer hall, Christopher and Mangarai slapped Sibanda on his face several times and it is at that time that Sibanda picked a log and threatened to assault them with it.”

Magara said Christopher then grabbed a log and struck Sibanda thrice on the head.

The prosecutor said Mangarai stabbed the complainant once on the back with a knife and the two fled.

Sibanda sustained head and back injuries and was ferried to Gweru Provincial Hospital.
