ZBC’s Radio Zimbabwe has a new voice – Baba Tencen – who is expected to spice things up on the station.

The South Africa-based comedian who is enjoying R100,000 which he got from businessman – Wicknell Chivayo – will be Godfrey Gweje’s co-anchor during the Drive Time show between 3PM and 6PM. His role will be similar to that of Dr Zobha.

Baba Tencen yesterday said he would not be relocating to Zimbabwe for the show as he will carry out his duties from the comfort of his Pretoria home, affirming that the comedian gets paid to do nothing (Kuripwa Kugara).

“Baba Tencen will not be moving to Zimbabwe as his role will be telephonic. He’ll basically be doing his comedy on radio among other duties which he’ll be tasked by Godfrey,” Baba Tencen’s manager, Tendai Joe said.

For now, Baba Tencen will be on air three times a week though he does not have set times.

“We’re still in the pilot phase so Baba Tencen can be called to be on air at any given time between 3 and 6PM. Listeners should just tune in at that time during the week to catch the comedian as he’ll be on standby throughout the show,” Joe said.

Though companies like Coca-Cola Zimbabwe and bakers – Bakers Inn/Lobels – have been slow to endorse the comedian whose signature mark is a loaf of bread and bottle of Coca Cola – a few like ZBC have realised his potential and are chipping in to expose his talent.

With over 42,000 followers on Facebook, Baba Tencen is now targeting to reach 50,000 people.
