BAKER’S INN, a subsidiary of ZSE-listed Simbisa Brands, says its business has grown in leaps and bounds, enabling it to command 44 percent of total bread market share in the country.

The company has a capacity to produce close to 800 000 loaves of bread and 200 000 pies per day, chief executive officer Mr Ngoni Mazango said yesterday.

He told Business Chronicle at the Buy and Win promotion draw here that the company was giving back to the community as it targets to control 50 percent of the market.

“People have been supporting us and our market share is now 44 percent of the potential Zimbabwean market and we are proud of that as we target at least 50 percent of the market.

“We have capacity to make 800 000 loaves of bread per day and 200 000 pies per day. We need that capacity especially going into the festive season to ensure that we give value to our customers,” said Mr Mazango.

He spoke highly about the quality and freshness of Baker’s Inn’s bread, which he claimed makes it last for six days on the shelf.

The company conducted the promotion between September 23 and November 25 this year under which customers would buy bread and complete entry coupons and stand the chance of winning various prizes.

Yesterday the draw was for Matabeleland North Province at which there were two TV sets, fridges, solar geysers and school fees vouchers each worth $120 and a grand prize of a vehicle.

There were 22 such prizes countrywide with Matabeleland South, Masvingo, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West, Manicaland and Mashonaland Central provincial draws already done.

Tomorrow the draw will be done in Bulawayo Province followed by Midlands in Kwekwe on Thursday and the final one in Harare on Saturday.
In Matabeleland North, Mrs Ruth Muzamba from Lambo near Dete won the grand prize of a VW Polo in absentia, while two fridges went to Messrs Sikhangele Nyathi from Hwange and William Chimande Zhakata, a taxi driver in Victoria Falls.

Mrs Gloria Nhemachena and Mrs Stella Sibanda, won school fees vouchers while a 32 inch TV each went to Mr Anodis Sibanda and Mrs Salima Makate all of Chinotimba.

Mr Takudzwa Zumba and Mr Diamond Tshuma Muvike emerged solar geysers winners.

Mr Mazango said customers should expect bigger promotions.

“As Baker’s Inn we have new innovations at every given time. In July we had a loyalty programme and this one we are concluding started on September 23 and ended on November 25.

“We realised that every business concentrates on bigger cities and we believe that we cater for the entire nation where we give opportunities to everyone. The population here could be overshadowed by those in Harare or Bulawayo hence it’s only fair that they compete on their own,” he said.

He said besides giving prizes, Baker’s Inn was also empowering communities.

Scores of vendors walked away with dozens of bread to enable them to start new businesses.

“We are picking the less priviledged who are selling goods on street corners who have potential but lacking capital and we are giving them start-up loaves of bread without paying anything so that they start a business,” added Mr Mazango.

“The competition has been a resounding success as people have been supportive. We want to thank every Zimbabwean for this. We have people at heart and are ploughing back to the community as we have also been giving food hampers around the country,” he said.
