BANTU Rovers opened the second half of the Southern Region Division One Soccer League with an emphatic 3-1 win over Casmyn to send a clear message that they are gunning for the title.

The former Premiership side sits at the top of the table with 40 points from 16 games and enjoys a seven-point lead over second-placed Amagagasi, who resume the second half of the season tomorrow in Victoria Falls against Black Boots.

Amagagasi can reduce the gap to four points if they beat Black Boots.

A brace by Joshua Wilson and a strike from Fortune Nkomazana fired Rovers to victory.

Nkomazana, the joint winner of the Nokel Security Zifa Southern Region Division One League May top goal scorer accolade with ex-Amagagasi forward Nhlanhla Ndlovu, took his season’s goals tally to 10.

Rovers’ coach Johannes Ngodzo heaped praise on his charges, but still brushed aside championship talk.

“It is good to restart with a win and hopefully we will build from this victory.

“We strive to improve with every outing and we will continue working hard so that we become a better side.

“As for the championship, it’s early days to talk about it because we have 14 rounds of games left and we just want to focus on each game at a time,” said Ngodzo.

Fourth-placed ZPC Hwange blew an opportunity to move a place up the ladder following their 0-0 draw against Makomo in a Hwange derby.

The goalless draw left the electricity generators tied on 31 points with third-placed Bulawayo Chiefs, who have a superior goal difference and take on Hwange Under-20 at the Colliery tomorrow.

Talen Vision swapped places with Bosso 90, with the former moving from position 10 to nine following their slender 1-0 win over army side Indlovu Iyanyathela.

Bosso 90, who have amassed 17 points from 16 matches, were held to a 0-0 draw by visiting Technosphere.

Victoria Falls Tigers continued with their steady rise on Sunday, moving two places up the table from position seven to five following a 1-0 win over Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services side Ntabazinduna.

Tigers got their goal from Melikhaya Ncube.
