The former Premiership side which is under the guidance of former Highlanders coach Rueben “Exe” Tsengwa and ex-Warriors midfield maestro Johannes Ngodzo believe they have what it takes to win the championship.

“We play as a team and most of the boys in our squad are youngsters who are hungry to make their names and what drives them  is the desire to play in the Premiership. Their positive attitude has been amazing  and even when results were not coming our way they never lost hope.

“Just like any other team in the league we want to win the championship and I believe we have a long way to go and for us to realise that goal we just have to stay focused and take each game as it comes,” said Ngodzo.

Bantu Rovers’ team is built around national Under-20 stars Marvellous Nakamba, Elvis Moyo, Lawrence “Dazzy” Mhlanga, Nqobizitha Masuku, Teenage Hadebe, Kelvin Moyo and their skipper Edwin “Cheese” Nkomo.

Kevin “Skopo” Sibanda who was on loan at Zimbabwe Saints last season has also been impressive for the former Premiership side, scoring important goals.

Another championship hopeful ZPC Hwange closed in on the log leaders as they took their points tally to 28 from 13 outings following their 2-1 home win against New West City. Despite the weekend defeat, New West City coach Farai Mujokoro who said they were fighting for a top four finish was satisfied with the result.

“Yeah, the game was fine and we played well though we feel we deserved point. I think we were let down by our finishing and now we are going to work on that area so that we keep our top four hopes alive,” said Mujokoro. New West City’s player of the moment Nkosilathi “Torres” Mhlanga who has banged nine goals in 12 matches scored the consolation goal for the Lobengula club.
