the corner, but not Roki please!
“We want someone with a sober attitude, behaviour (and) mind, who is prepared to raise the national standing. The young man is going to raise cigarettes, beer, babies not Zim flag. Squila of Power FM or Anne Nhira aka ‘Vimbai Jari’ formerly Studio 263 are better choices”. wrote Mai Dee from Bluffhill.
Looking at the qualities attributed to Roki I think the dear reader was actually confirming what sort of character should be on Big Brother Africa.
I believe that for anyone to enter such a television reality show they have to have such characteristics otherwise they won’t make it.
At this point I cannot comment on whether Roki should be on the show or not because all that is still a matter of speculation.
The housemates will be made public on May 1, perhaps that’s the reason we have to keep our fingers crossed to see who is worthy representing Zimbabwe this time around.
But there has been so much hullabaloo about this year’s season of Big Brother Africa.
The noise is not so much that the series dubbed Amplified would be different from the previous ones, NO!
But the noise is about M-Net convincing viewers after last year’s debacle in which Nigeria’s Uti won ahead of firm favourite Munyaradzi Chidzonga of Zimbabwe, that the programme is still worthwhile watching.
But my main worry is that whenever something is amplified it gets exaggerated or rather blown out of proportion.
So the amplified version of Big Brother could be another yawn!
I hope that Big Brother Amplified will give viewers real entertainment and not mill games.
I am yet to convince myself that M-Net will deliver a good show this coming series of Big Brother Amplified, which starts on May 1, 2011.
As always is the case with M-Net, each Big Brother Africa series gets bigger and better although in terms of spark and twists it is the opposite.
Honestly, the reality show is getting worse with each series, especially now that it has become the cash cow for M-Net, the show has become a vehicle to pamper the Nigerian market which is the biggest in Africa.
I would be the first to admit that the first Big Brother Africa was truly African and it churned out stars, the likes of Gaetano Kagwa of Uganda and Cherise Mukabale of Zambia.
Big Brother Amplified will be screened live on DStv Channel 198 from Sunday May 1. It will run for 91 days and 24/7 with the dream grand prize of US$200 000.
According to M-Net, “the sixth season of Africa’s biggest reality show will include more of the drama, the emotion, excitement and the suspense that have made the series a firm fan favourite”.
MNet Africa managing director Biola Alabi, who heads the channel’s initiatives across the continent, was enthusiastic about the show.
“By definition amplified means to increase the volume, to make louder, to make more powerful. And that’s exactly what we want to do with season six. To take the elements that audiences find so fantastic and present them in a refreshing new way while adding big surprises and entertaining twists.
“Amplified is such a well-known pop culture term and Big Brother has definitely become a pop culture success. So the name fits perfectly.”
Participating countries are Angola, Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The show is created and produced for M-Net by Endemol South Africa.
The series will once again be hosted by charismatic IK Osakioduwa, who has been at the heart of the action since he joined the show two seasons ago.
