THE Bulawayo City Council last week interviewed 13 candidates to fill the vacant Health Services and Housing and Community Services director posts.

The retirement of Dr Zanele Hwalima as Health Services director as well as the death of Mr Isaiah Magagula who was the Housing and Community Services director necessitated the interviews.

Dr Hwalima retired in September last year while Mr Magagula died a few days before his retirement in January.

Acting Bulawayo mayor, Councillor Lillian Mlilo said the 13 candidates were interviewed last week for the two jobs. “The interviews for the two posts were conducted last week. Interviews for the health director’s post were conducted on Thursday and housing director’s post on Friday. There were nine candidates for the housing director’s post and four for the health director’s,” said Clr Mlilo.

She said they were waiting for the Human Resources Department to submit a list of the successful candidates to council which would then make a recommendation to the Ministry Local Government, Public Works and National Housing. The Chronicle could not immediately get the full list of those who were interviewed.

However, sources said among those interviewed are the assistant director of Housing and Community Services, Mr Dictor Khumalo for the Housing and Community Services director’s post and the acting Health Services director Dr Edwin Sibanda for the Health Services director’s post.
