THE Civil Protection Unit has contained the cholera outbreak which saw eight people being quarantined at Beitbridge District Hospital early last month.Beitbridge District Environmental Health officer, Noto Dube told a meeting in the border town yesterday that all the people who were detained at the Cholera Isolation Centre have been discharged.

He said 76 people were screened and eight people were hospitalised.

He said the main source of the outbreak was contaminated meat, vegetables, offals and milk. “The situation is now under control and there is no need for people to panic. All the victims have been discharged after undergoing weeks of treatment and monitoring at our Cholera Isolation Centre. We will continue monitoring the system and our sensitisation teams are out in the district,” he said.

Dube said with the assistance of their partners, they had managed to seal all the uncovered wells and boreholes in the cholera affected areas.
