BEITBRIDGE businessman Normore Nyatsanga has scooped the 2014 Zimbabwe Institute of Management southern regional overall SMEs manager of the year award.

The youthful entrepreneur, popularly known as Eland in the border town, shrugged off stiff competition from eight other contenders at a colourful event held in Bulawayo on Thursday night.

Nyatsanga, a former clearing agent who ventured into the hospitality business using his 13th cheque in 2011, could not hide his joy after winning the award.

He received a trophy and a certificate.

The ecstatic businessman told our Beitbridge Bureau the award belonged to people from the border town who continue to support him.

“This is in recognition of hard work and innovation. It’s important for one to be passionate in whatever they’re doing. The award is a first for the Beitbridge community and as Eland Investments, we want to continue exploring several ways of contributing to the country’s economic blueprint Zim-Asset” said Nyatsanga.

He said he was also working on growing his business empire from a small to medium enterprise and ultimately a big private enterprise.

“We’re going to build on the success of this award as we continue with our quest to be one of the leading fast foods outlets across Zimbabwe. Our desire is to boost infrastructure development and create more employment opportunities for our people.

“As Eland Investment, we need to make a mark on the national map. The world should know that Beitbridge isn’t just a border town, but a place pregnant with opportunities and serious business people” he said.

Nyatsanga beat eight other contenders from Matabeleland North, South, Bulawayo, the Midlands and Masvingo provinces.

He will now represent the region at the national competition to be held soon in Harare.

Fair Ridge Shipping of Beitbridge was the first runner-up while Lucky Joy investment of Victoria Falls was the second runner-up.

Other participants included CV Creation, First Pack, Ilanga Safaris, FN Decor and Elephant Eye, all of Bulawayo.

Nyatsanga said they were working on a raft of measures to ensure their business stays afloat under the prevailing difficult economic climate.

“It’s important that we do our homework and make sure we contribute effectively to the national fiscus” said the ecstatic Nyatsanga.

The regional awards were divided into six categories; the private sector manager of the year, public services manager of the year, young manager of the year, regional contribution, SMEs and customer service excellence.

Zimpapers board member and Nust director of information and publicity Felix Moyo came first in the public sector services category while the ZITF Company bagged the customer services excellence award.

Nyaradzo Funeral Services scooped the young manager of the year and the private sector awards.

The Chronicle circulation manager Vethi Tshuma was the first runner up in the regional contribution awards, which was won by Edgars.
