BEITBRIDGE Town Council has applied to the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing for borrowing powers to modernise Dulivhadzimu Bus terminus at a cost of $300 000.

Beitbridge Town secretary, Mr Loud Ramakgapola, said the local authourity wants to transform from a town council to a municipality, hence having a modern bus terminus is a move in the right direction

“The terminus is bringing in very good money and we want to modernise it as a way of paying back to the community and the bus companies,” he said.

“We are eyeing to become a municipality, so we have to modernise our facilities and start acting like a municipality.”

Mr Ramakgapola said the border town is currently using a gravel bus terminus.

“The construction of the rank will bring good facilities to the Beitbridge community because buses are using a gravel terminus, so we want to upgrade it,” he said.

Last year, Beitbridge Town Council applied to the Ministry of Local Government seeking an upgrade to municipality status saying this would improve service delivery and the value of properties.

A decision is yet to be made following the application.

“If the town gets municipality status, it will grow economically and there will be an improvement in service delivery since the budget will also be higher and the value of properties will also go up and our standards will also be higher,” said Mr Ramakgapola.
