A MAN from Bulawayo has been arrested for possessing mbanje worth an estimated street value of $4 560 that police found in a bag that he had initially claimed had goblins.

Nasim Abdul (35), of Matsheumhlope suburb who is unemployed appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Nyaradzo Ringisai yesterday facing a count of unlawful possession of dagga.

He pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of the dangerous drug.

Ms Ringisai remanded him to today for sentencing.

Abdul was apprehended last Friday at around 11:30PM by police officers from Hillside Police Station who were on patrol.

The police officers stopped and searched Abdul after questioning him on what was in his black bag and he said it had goblins.

Constable Tafadzwa Mambo said when he asked for Abdul’s identity card he failed to produce it.

He said he then asked him what was in his bag and he attempted to run away.

Cst Mambo and other police officers opened the bag and found clothes on top as well as nine sachets of dagga underneath.

“Abdul attempted to run away and when we blocked his way he started pleading for forgiveness leading to his arrest,” said Cst Mambo.

Prosecuting, Mr Nkathazo Dlodlo said the next day police went to Abdul’s home and searched the premises.

He said they recovered some loose dagga inside a white sack on the premises.

The dagga was weighed in Abdul’s presence and it amounted to 4 270kg with a street value of $4 560.
