MAMELODI Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has confirmed that attacking midfielder Khama Billiat could leave the club when his contract expires.

Billiat joined Sundowns in August 2013 from Ajax Cape Town on a three-year contract.

The 26-year-old played an instrumental role in helping Sundowns win the Caf Champions League, Super Cup, Telkom Knockout and the league since he joined the club.

“Khama can do whatever he wants to do. If he stays, he stays, if he wants to go, he can go. The contract is finishing, we are at peace with that,” Mosimane said.

“When he (Billiat) realises that we are at peace, he unfolds his place. He deserves to be in the starting line-up, but you know he must work a little bit to be in the starting line up.”

Mosimane said he needed to bring new players to the club that would replace Billiat and Leonardo Castro as they prepare for the Champions League next year.

The former Bafana Bafana coach confirmed that central midfielder Tiyani Mabunda was negotiating his contract to stay at Sundowns.

“Shuga will stay. Shuga wants to talk and wants to discuss terms, so he will stay. Where is he gonna go? Which team? He can choose to go to another team but I think he is clever enough to know that he has to stay here.

“He’s got Champions League to play for next year and we are fighting to go play Champions League again. Do you want to leave that team, I don’t think so.” — The New Age
