INDUSTRY and Commerce Minister Dr Mike Bimha will lead a high-powered business delegation for the Namibia-Zimbabwe Business Forum to be held in Namibia in October.

According to ZimTrade a number of Zimbabwean companies are set to participate at the business forum to be held in Windhoek.

“The forum follows the visit to Zimbabwe by the President of the Republic of Namibia, Dr Hage Geingob, who was the guest of honour at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, which he officially opened on 28 April. “During the visit, President Geingob encouraged Zimbabwean companies to do business with Namibia. The forum is a unique opportunity for companies to undertake an exploratory mission to Namibia and network with their counterparts,” said ZimTrade.

The forum would feature a multi-day conference, business to business meetings as well as government to government engagements aimed at fostering trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

The visit also comes on the back of the call by ZimTrade for companies to explore opportunities in the Namibian market following a survey it conducted in September 2015.

“The survey identified opportunities in sectors such as building and construction, pharmaceuticals, veterinary products and services, leather products, fast moving consumer goods as well as professional services,” said ZimTrade.

Namibia is a middle-income market with a Gross Domestic Product per capita of $4.140 in 2016. In addition, the country has a booming tourism market and provides access to the lucrative southern Angola market. Zimbabwe and Namibia have a bilateral trade agreement, which allows duty-free access across borders.

“Both countries are also members of Southern African Development Community. Zimbabwean companies could also leverage on the Namibia-based Zimbabwean professionals who expressed their willingness to form business partnerships,” said ZimTrade.

Meanwhile, ZimTrade has successfully met the requirements of the new ISO 9001:2015 certification from Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ).

ISO 9001:2015 Standard explicitly emphasises the integration of risk-based thinking into all business processes as a tool to create and protect shareholder value.

“ISO 9001:2015 allows organisations to adapt to a changing world. It enhances an organisation’s ability to satisfy its customers and provides a coherent foundation for growth and sustained success.

“As the national trade development and promotion organisation, we have continually led by example so as to inspire industry to attain and adhere to international standards. Trends in today’s business world confirm that certification is the de facto label of excellence. Suppliers who have recognised Business Management Systems Certifications have an advantage over those who are not certified,” ZimTrade chief executive officer, Ms Sithembile Pilime said.
