THE construction of the Binga Border Post to facilitate trade and movement between Zimbabwe and Zambia is now complete, Binga District Administrator Lyvia Ndephi Banda said yesterday.
In an interview, Banda said the border post’s opening is now imminent as they are now just waiting for Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) and the immigration department to second personnel to work there.

“It’s just a matter of time before the border post starts operating. What is left of for Zimra and immigration department to bring their personnel here,” she said.

Banda said across the Zambezi River in Siazongwe town, Zambians have also completed putting up all the necessary structures.
“Across the river, the Zambians have already put in their systems in place. I think we are on the right track because we have accommodation for the Zimra and immigration officers. There is also a structure ready for occupation that can be used as an office,” said Banda.

Recently, Binga Rural District Council chief executive officer Joshua Muzamba said the new border post would help boost development in the area.

“The border post will help boost the socio-economic development of the district. If a formal border post is set up in Binga it will actually help the local people to tap into the Zambian market for a lot of Zimbabwean products,” he said.

At the moment, people from Binga and Siazongwe in Zambia cross the border without following any border formalities.
The border post could also increase tourism figures through the Kavango-Zambezi Trans-Frontier Conservation Area, which covers Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana and Zambia.
