POLICE-backed Black Boots FC shot to the crest of the Zifa Southern Region Division One Soccer League, two-points clear of Technosphere and Ntabazinduna following their weekend win over Hwange Juniors.
Black Boots beat the visiting Hwange Juniors 3-2, getting their goals from ex-FC Platinum and Hwange striker Simon Njeleza, Tashinga Mungate and Andrew Dzikamai while Innocent Macheneke grabbed a brace for Young Chipangano.

After 18 games Black Boots have accumulated 35 points, two more than championship chasing Technosphere and Ntabazinduna who have a game in hand.

Ntabazinduna had gone into the weekend tied on 32 points with Black Boots but were held to a 2-2 draw by fourth placed Tsholotsho FC who have set their eyes on the title as they trail table toppers by three points.

Dickson and Gift Phiri were on target for Ntabazinduna with the Tsholotsho boys getting a point away from home courtesy of strikes by Edmore Chirambadare and Roderick Mufadzo.

Technosphere became the first championship chasing team to benefit from Portland Cement’s withdrawal from the league as they were awarded maximum points on a 3-0 scoreline.

The Hwange club moved from position four to two without kicking a ball.
“Portland Cement withdrew from the league having already played all their first half of the season games and for that reason, we couldn’t throw away the points because that would have disrupted the log standings. What will happen is that all the teams will be awarded three points each for the fixtures that they were supposed to take on Portland Cement,” said Musa Mandaza, Zifa Southern Region Division One Soccer League chairman.

In other matches, former champions Plumtree Chiefs squandered an opportunity to close in on leaders as they were held to a goalless draw by Victoria Falls-based Trumus.

The result left Plumtree Chiefs fifth on the table, five points behind Black Boots.
Twyman Ncube-coached Old Nic Mine registered their third victory of the season in as many weeks beating New West 1-0 through a George Mpofu goal.

Ncube a former Hwange and Chibuku Shumba fiery striker is hopeful that Old Nic will survive the chop.
