SOCCER fans are in for a treat as Zifa has confirmed that the Bob@92 Super Cup will be one of the 2016 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season curtain raisers.

The eventful pre-season calendar also features the Caf Champions League, Confederations Cup, Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the ZNA Charities Shield.

The games begin on Saturday with league champions Chicken Inn taking on South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of the Caf Champions League preliminary round match at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo, while Harare City will also be hosting AS Adema FC of Madagascar in the Caf Confederations Cup on the same day.

The ZNA Charities Shield, involving four teams from the Northern Region and four from the Southern Region, will kick-off on March 5. This will be followed by the Warriors’ double clash against Swaziland in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in March.

Zifa spokesman Xolisani Gwesela said all necessary preparations for the Bob@92 tournament were in place and they will be meeting tomorrow to select an organising committee.

“I can confirm that we will be having the Bob Super Cup again this year and all the necessary preparations are in place, starting with the assembling of the organising committee this Friday,” said Gwesela.

He said members of the organising committee would be selected from four institutions which are the 21st February Movement, Zifa, Sports and Recreation Commission and the Ministry of Sport and Recreation.

Gwesela could, however, not indicate which teams will be involved in this year’s tournament, saying the dates and teams would be confirmed by the organising committee.

“We aren’t in a position to unveil more details because we’re yet to sit down with the committee and map the way forward,” Gwesela said.
