TMACZ is a Government regulatory body which was introduced in 2006 and is registered under the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare.
In an interview yesterday, Matabeleland South provincial chairman Mr Zecks Zukwa Manjinga Dube said it was illegal for inyanga and faith healers to operate without licences.
“If they are found operating without licences come January, we will stop them from practising until they obtain licences,” said Mr Dube.

He said there were more prophets operating illegally compared to inyanga.
“The number of tsikamutandas has relatively gone down, especially in Matabeleland South province,” said Mr Dube.

“Spiritual churches that have prophets who heal people should also have licences because there is a need for them to be certified to protect people from bogus prophets,” said Mr Dube.

He said all herbalists should also have licences again to protect members of the public.
“All those who sell herbal teas that have since gained popularity such as the green tea should either come to us or go through their orgnisations to get certification to operate inline with the Government’s requirements,” said Mr Dube.

He said prophets and traditional healers found indulging in corrupt dealings would be stripped of their licences.
“There are many cases of corruption involving traditional medical practitioners and if someone is found on the wrong side of the law, they will  be banned from practicing,” said Mr Dube.
