BORDER Strikers’ title credentials come under scrutiny once again when they take on Shabanie Mine at Dulibadzimu Stadium in a Zifa Central Soccer League encounter tomorrow.

The border town outfit had their lead at the summit of the standings cut to nine points after losing 0-2 to ZETDC Southern Region in a midweek fixture at Mkoba Stadium in Gweru.

After losing two nil at Maglas in the reverse fixture, Border Strikers would be hoping to turn the tables against the asbestos miners at home where there are still unbeaten.

Vavheneki mentor, Never Malunga, whose side needs 10 points from the remaining six fixtures to take an unassailable lead, said his charges are geared for the match and would be hoping to collect maximum points.

“We’re still taking each match as it comes and our next game is no different. We respect Shabanie Mine because they’re a big side but we would want to collect maximum points especially after our loss during the week,” he said.

His Shabanie counterpart, Tendai Chikuni, said his charges are now playing to compete and come up with a competitive team for next season.

Said Chikuni: “We’re playing to compete and we will not do anyone any favours. I know we still have a chance for promotion but that’s no longer in our hands therefore the only realistic thing to do is to focus on coming up with a strong side to compete next season.”

Elsewhere, high flying Gweru United, who are still enjoying a purple patch, travel to Kwekwe for a date with Ivan Hoe while second placed ZPC Munyati lock horns with Tongogara whose ambitions for promotion have seemingly gone off the rails.
