TWO of the four Highlanders FC candidates vying for the committee member’s position, incumbent Charles “Six-One” Moyo and Faith Silandulo Dube,  are confident of turning the club’s fortunes if voted into office.Moyo and Dube are competing with ex-committee member Wisdom Mabhena and Cleopas Ngano.

Moyo thanked Bosso members for the support they gave him during his tenure.

He believes he is the right candidate to bridge the gap between the executive, players and supporters.

“Three years in office clearly indicated to me that the role of a committee member requires major interpersonal skills as the committee member bridges various systems within the club especially executive committee members, players and supporters, mainly in preparation for and during matches. Some interpersonal skills relate to ability to listen to others, to be humble, being flexible where necessary, to be objective and honest all the time, ability to work as a team and take collective responsibility,” he said.

“These interpersonal skills required are found in mature characters. In general, maturity is associated with age and as such I feel I’m of the right age to stabilise the Highlanders system in all fronts.”

Dube believes in “teamwork and respect of statutes.” He pledged to fulfil assignments delegated to him by the executive chairman.

Driven by ambition to see the club prosper, Dube believes use of innovative technological approach would enhance the membership drive.

He is mindful that he is coming in as “support personnel” and wants to improve on what is already in existence at Highlanders.

“Social networks are an in-thing and can’t be avoided. Once voted into office and working with fellow executive committee members, I’ll strive to unlock the attractive Highlanders brand through the use of social networks like Facebook and Twitter. We can also embark on a membership drive through use of facilities like Ecocash and Telecash among others to get our members to pay their subscriptions. This will in turn boost our coffers and in essence it’s all about utilisation of modern technology,” said Dube.

A health promotion officer who has worked with renowned international organisations and has a Masters in Social Behaviour studies, he believes his work experience could be key to him working with the club to improve its brand and member appeal.

Asked about his last defeat to Moyo in the last elections, Dube said: “At Highlanders there’s a strong belief of junior development and I’m one person who has faith in this system. I believe that junior development doesn’t only apply in the field of play but in leadership. By standing, I believe I’m giving the young generation hope of participating in the club’s affairs and there’s  a lot that we can learn as a generation from our club elders.”
