A six-member electoral college to supervise the Highlanders executive committee elections which are set for February 1 was announced last night amid reports of missing nomination forms.

The electoral college, headed by retired radio personality, Luke Mnkandla, is expected to sit for the verification process soon after the closure of nomination at 12PM tomorrow with board secretary and member of the electoral college Jimmy Ncube saying Monday could be the latest they might have to sit.

“The Electoral College was appointed on Wednesday, it’s headed by Luke Mnkandla who is the returning officer. It also has Dumisani Sandi, Ndumiso Sibanda, Elkanah Dube, Justice Nicholas Mathonsi and myself,” said Ncube.

Three posts are up for grabs, that of the chairman, held by Peter Dube, secretary-general by outgoing Andrew Tapela and committee member Charles Moyo’s post.

Dube and Moyo have not publicly declared that they are seeking re-election although their close associates have indicated that they want to have a second bite of the cherry.

Former chairman Ernest Maphepha Sibanda has since submitted his forms for the chairman’s post while four candidates, Emmet Ndlovu, Donald Ndebele, Innocent Batisani Ncube and Njabulo Bango all want to replace Tapela, who is constitutionally barred from running for office after serving the mandatory two terms.

Faith Silandulo Dube is so far the only candidate for the committee member’s post.

Meanwhile, Silandulo Dube made allegations that nomination forms mysteriously disappeared for the better part of the day yesterday with the office staff not giving any satisfactory reasons.

He raised rigging fears.

“I sent my guy to pick up the forms early in the morning but he was told that the envelope with the forms was nowhere to be found with the girls there promising to call him once they have located the envelope,” said Dube.

But, Dube said, by late yesterday afternoon, his agent had not received any call prompting him (agent) to go back to the Highlanders offices where he finally got the forms just before 4PM.

“I have received them yes, but its clear that I have been extremely disadvantaged because they were members who wanted to sign for me who have since left for South Africa. If empty forms can disappear what stops completed forms from disappearing?” asked Dube who arrives today from holiday in South Africa.

Board secretary Ncube referred questions to the chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede who refused to comment.
