BULAWAYO giants Highlanders ended the season on a winning note when they dispatched visiting Chapungu United with two well taken goals by youngsters at a poorly attended League match at Hartsfield Ground yesterday afternoon.

The win saw Amahlolanyama ending the season on fifth position.

Tshilamoya went into the lead in the 26th minute when young Godfrey “Baba Jukwa” Makaruse made a mockery of the more experienced Chapungu defenders after exchanging some telly passes with King Nadolo and Young Warriors striker Gabriel Nyoni.

Chapungu goalie Roy Mazingi never saw any action and might actually be still wondering what happened.

Nadolo scored Bosso’s second and final goal of the season in the 55th minute and from then onwards, the visitors, who were still not certain of their survival in the elite league, never really troubled the home team.

A majority of the few supporters kept on calling Charles Sibanda’s name as they urged him to score the 13th goal that would have seen him bagging the Golden Boot Award but it never proved to be. He will now share the award with How Mine forward Kuda Musharu after they both ended the season on 12 goals.

The visitors though appeared to be the better side but could not score past Highlanders goalie Munyaradzi Diya who was eventually taken out in the second half due to a sprain in the ankle.

He recieved a standing ovation when he went out for Ariel Sibanda who had Highlanders supporters on their feet as he took over the goal posts in the 67th minute.

Stand in coach Mark Mathe was naturally happy with the three points gained.

“I am happy with the win, it couldn’t have come at a better time,” he said.

Chapungu gafferJohn Nyikadzino, viewed as a tactician by annalysts was not amused by his boys’ mistakes which he blamed for the loss.

“Highlanders punished us for the mistakes we made but generally we played well,” he said.
