Below are reactions by some Highlanders’ fans to our story Bosso cash lost in SA carried in yesterday’s edition.

Brighton Mandla Mpofu: The story about Emmett Ndlovu being robbed of the club’s money in South Africa raises a lot of suspicion. How can club funds be carried around like money for buying tomatoes or mealie-meal? If it’s genuine, then this shows how corruption and lack of accountability are some of the major reasons the club has sunk so low. Doesn’t the club have a bank account? Ndlovu claims he preferred to go and collect the money direct than using the banks. For Ndlovu to prove that he is committed to the club’s cause, he must pay back.

Lasborn Dube: Personally I don’t see any fault in Emmett Ndlovu or any of the executive members on this. It’s just that uma amehlo abantu esejwayele okubi, asehlala ebona lobubi lapho obungekho khona. What happened to Ndlovu is what we call an incident. No one planned that, otherwise I suspect those SA supporters who gave him the money. They might have set him up lobanje kungabe kungayisibo. The man is saying he will pay back the money and I don’t see any point for debate here.

Phathisa PT Tshuma: Siyabonga ukusinda komphefumulo wakhe, kodwa ukuthi ahambe ethwele imali yeBosso angani ngeyokuthenga amajiggies angivumelani lakho.

Faith Silandulo Dube: It’s unfortunate for Emmett, but it’s a big shame for the club. Highlanders lost a lot of money in 2007 or thereabout in China over a more or less similar problem. Ideally we would expect the club to have learnt a lot from that and seriously taken note of the auditor’s recommendations then. It’s not about Emmett per se but the systems we thought were in order.

Rodrick Ncube: The question here is not complaining all the time or Emmett, but the tragedy of handling organisational funds with casualness and the resultant theft seen as a misfortune. We as a people should insist on systems. This case is the epitome of organisational mediocrity. We can argue here till hell freezes, but as long as we don’t embrace professionalism, even in the small things, how are we going to grow the club? What confidence are we going to give people to give money to the club? Money is a scarce resource, so handle it professionally even if there is a transaction cost. Trying to justify what happened is bad. Don’t defend the indefensible.

Leslie Phiri: Emmett is a man of integrity, he wouldn’t lie. I suspect he could have been set up. In any case, he said he will pay it back what’s $1,000 really?

Patrick Ndlovu: Surely in the 21st century we are still running Bosso like a spaza shop! When are we going to see professionalism at this club? My issue is not the robbery, but how on earth in this day and age does a big club still carry money around like a vendor. Do you remember at one stage we had prize money deposited into the former treasurer’s personal bank account?

MK: Ndlovu funny enough you know about money externalisation, what about money laundering? You don’t know that it’s illegal to carry more than R20,000 without proof of origin. So you wanted to smuggle it? Give back the money. That’s a lousy story from an assumed learned somebody like you.

Bambanani: (Ndumiso) Gumede’s comment is very immature and incriminating. He is trying to incite hatred. It shows he is a man riding on division and taking advantage of other people’s misfortunes, yet he should be the uniting fatherly figure befitting his age and experience in soccer.
