HIGHLANDERS will not be taking part in this year’s edition of the Bob Super Cup, club chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede has said. Bosso were due to play Zim-Sino Cup winners Caps United at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday with the winner facing holders Dynamos a week later. However Gumede said they had already made up their plans for the weekend with a trip to Beitbridge where they will play a friendly match against Border Strikers at Dulivhadzimu Stadium on Sunday.

“I conveyed our position to the organizers yesterday. We only got informed of the Caps United match late yesterday when plans for Beitbridge had already been sealed. There is also no official confirmation from the league as well as Zifa,” said Gumede.

The veteran administrator also said they felt Dynamos had an unfair advantage even before kickoff as they will not be involved in any semifinal.

Spokesperson of the organising committee, Charles Mabika , when contacted for comment this morning said; “That is a new one to me, what I know is that Highlanders were informed yesterday of the arrangement. Let me get in touch with authotiries,”

Last year, the top three teams, Dynamos, Harare City and Highlanders took part with the Harare giants getting a bye from the semi-finals while Bosso and Harare City clashed at Barbourfields Stadium. Bosso won 2-1 to progress to the final at Rufaro Stadium where they lost 0-2 thanks to goals from Masimba Mambare and Ronald Chitiyo.

DeMbare have dominated the winners’ podium since the inception of the tournament, winning three times, once against Caps United in the inaugural and twice against Highlanders.

In 2012 FC Platinum lifted the cup at the expense of another mining side Hwange whom they beat 2-0 through goals from Mitchell Katsvairo and Allan Gahadzikwa.
