ORGANISERS of the Bob91 Super Cup are confident that they will get sponsorship for what has become an annual event to celebrate the birthday of President Mugabe.

The organising committee spokesperson, Charles Mabika said yesterday that his committee was confident that they will secure sponsorship for the cup.

Caps United and Highlanders are due to square off at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday afternoon and the winner will face Dynamos in the final on a date yet to be announced.

Highlanders had asked the organisers to provide details regarding prizemoney, camping expenses as well as rules of the tournament by 10AM yesterday.

The club had, however, not yet received a response from the organisers by yesterday evening but Mabika insisted that it was all systems go. He said Zifa had approved the tournament and therefore it was on.

“The latest is that the tournament will proceed. We’re engaging new companies as well as our old partners to ensure the event goes ahead as scheduled. Zifa have sanctioned the event and we’re still looking for sponsorship and working on other logistics.

“The clubs are raring to go and are looking forward to the tournament. It’s fair that they be concerned about what they’re going to get and preparation expenses,” said Mabika.

Highlanders chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede said they were keen to take part in the tournament but he was not happy with the way it was being handled by the organisers.

“For starters there are no tournament rules, we weren’t told how we qualified and why ourselves and Caps United have been reduced to second rate by engaging in a play-off with Dynamos waiting for the final.

“Charles Mabika and Stan Kasukuwere phoned yesterday and we asked them to put everything in writing. There are contracts with players, we need camping money, we’ve been battling to sign on players, so all those things have to be looked at,” Gumede said.

The match will be the first real test for new Highlanders coach Bongani Mafu and Mark Harrison who will have completed a second week with Makepekepe.

Harrison got himself to a promising start at Caps winning 6-5 after a penalty shootout in a challenge final against Dynamos last week.
