KWEKWE-based cricket franchise side Midwest Rhinos Under-17s will clash with their Botswana counterparts for the next four days.
The two sides will play two Twenty20 and two 50 overs matches in a series that starts today and ends on Sunday at Kwekwe Sports Club.
The franchise’s area manager, Admire Marodza, confirmed the tour by Botswana and expressed confidence in Rhinos overcoming the tourists.
“Botswana as we speak are on the road and the last time we communicated with them, they were in Bulawayo. They should be arriving here this afternoon (yesterday). Our Under-17 side is going to be playing their Under-17 side in two T20 matches and two One Day Internationals which will end on Sunday.

“We have done our preparations and we are expecting good competition from them. However, we are a step ahead of them and we expect to win in both formats of the game,” he said.

In the past, the Midlands and Mashonaland West franchise side and Botswana’s Under-19s and senior women’s sides have met with the former posting impressive victories.

Botswana has been touring the country for a series against Rhinos since the inception of franchise cricket in 2010.
Rhinos have reciprocated the tours twice in 2012 and last year.

Marodza said funds permitting they are also planning to tour Botswana in July with the Under-19 team as well as the franchise’s senior women’s cricket side.
