AS part of its personnel development programme ahead of the sixth edition of the African Union Sports Council Region Five Under-20 Games, the Bulawayo Amateur Boxing Association is appealing for funds to send two of its members for a continental course in Botswana.
In his letter of appeal to well-wishers, the boxing board’s Bulawayo secretary Arvian Mathe, said they had recommended Ezwell Ndlovu and Steven Masiyambumbi to attend a continental referees and judges’ course in Botswana that will run for a week.

The course is set to be held in May although dates for the course, set to be attended by delegates from the Region Five countries, are yet to be confirmed.

The duo will need $1,000 to cover travel, accommodation and participation expenses.
“At the moment we do not have international referees in Zimbabwe and we feel by sending the duo, the country will benefit a lot especially as we prepare for the Region Five Under-20  Games which will be held here in Bulawayo,” said Mathe.

Ndlovu is a former bronze medallist at the Commonwealth Games in 1994.
He fought as a heavyweight boxer in his days in the ring while Masiyambumbi who is believed will take over as the junior national coach has been a dominant force in amateur boxing where he has fought in the welterweight division.
