AN 11-YEAR-old boy from Lobengula suburb in Bulawayo died instantly when he was struck by falling debris after a car rammed a precast wall at his home where                    he was playing with friends yesterday evening.Divine Nare, a pupil at Nkanyezi Primary School, died from head injuries after bricks from the wall fractured his skull, killing him on the spot.

The incident which left residents worried about the safety of their children occurred at around 5PM  when a Nissan Primera veered off the road into the  wall.

The boy’s uncle, Christopher Mpofu, told Chronicle that he was disturbed by the conduct of the driver who killed his nephew.

He said the driver was arrested.

“We rushed outside after hearing a disturbing sound of a car that hit a wall. I wonder where our children should play as there’s no safety anymore, we thought they are safer when they’re at home,” said  Mpofu.

He said it was very sad that the accident happened a day after the boy’s mother had left for South Africa, where she works.

“The car was speeding and it only braked near the house after it had brought down the durawall, they were drunk and we seized their beer as evidence,” said Mpofu.

The boy’s grandmother was at pains narrating her grandchild’s untimely death.

“He was my only grandchild, I wasn’t there when it happened but I’m very hurt, he  died a painful death and it took the police more than two hours to collect his body,” she said.

She said the car belonged to a police detective (name supplied).
