A 29-YEAR-OLD man who was desperate to fend for his family has been fined $100 for stealing two loaves of bread and property worth $47. Mimina Ncube of Ntoli in Bulilima District who begged for the court’s leniency said he broke into the complainant’s car with the intention of only taking away bread which he had spotted inside because he wanted to provide food to his family.

He said he was driven to steal other valuables he found in the car because of his desperate situation.
Ncube was convicted on his own plea of guilty to stealing from Mr Collen Sibanda (58) by Mr Gideon Ruvedza.

If he defaults he will serve 20 days in jail.
The prosecutor, Mr Paul Mpofu, said on 28 July, Ncube was at Mr Sibanda’s homestead in Huwana Village at about 8pm where he forced opened the rear window of the car, which was parked in the yard.

Ncube who wanted to steal bread ended up looting a Nokia cellphone and 150 rand.
Mr Sibanda discovered the theft the following morning and followed footprints which he found around his car to Ncube’s homestead in the next village.

The matter was reported to the police leading to Ncube’s arrest.
The stolen property was valued at $47,40. Property worth $30 was recovered.
