Generals retire: Redeployment for Chiwenga, Chihuri takes a bow

ZIMBABWE Defence Forces (ZDF) Commander General Constantino Chiwenga is set to retire pending redeployment while Commissioner-General of Police Augustine Chihuri is on leave ahead of retirement.
In a statement announcing promotions and appointments in the Security Services made by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda yesterday said Dr Chihuri has been on leave since last Friday, pending retirement.
He said Deputy Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga has been appointed Acting Commissioner-General of the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
Dr Sibanda said Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Commander Lieutenant-General Philip Valerio Sibanda, who has been promoted to the rank of General, is now the ZDF Commander.
“Commissioner-General of Police, Dr Augustine Chihuri started his leave on 15th December 2017 pending his retirement from the service. Deputy Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga has been appointed Acting Commissioner-General of Zimbabwe Republic Police,” said Dr Sibanda. General Constantino Guvheya Dominic Nyikadzino Chiwenga is set to retire pending re-deployment.”
He said Ambassador Major-General Edzai Absolom Chanyuka Chimonyo, who was Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Tanzania has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General and assumes the post of ZNA Commander.
President Mnangagwa also promoted Air Vice-Marshal Elson Moyo to the rank of Air Marshal and he assumes the post of Commander, Airforce of Zimbabwe (AFZ).
Prior to his promotion and appointment, Air Marshal Moyo was Chief of Staff, Joint Operations and Plans at the ZDF Headquarters.
President Mnangagwa also promoted Brigadier-Generals David Sigauke, John Chris Mupande, Paul Chima and Hlanganani Dube to the rank of Major-General.
Air Commodore Jasper Garikayi Marangwanda was promoted to the rank of Air Vice-Marshal.
Air Marshal Perrance Shiri who was recently appointed Minister of Lands, Agriculture and Rural Settlement, has been promoted to the rank of Air Chief Marshal following his retirement.
Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister, Major-General Sibusiso Moyo has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General following his retirement.
Major-General Engelbert Rugeje, who also retired and was appointed Zanu-PF National Commissar at the party’s just-ended special congress has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General .
