ARTISTES, local leaders and residents of Victoria Falls feel let down by Breeze FM management for going silent on them after having promised to be their voice.

Run by Bulawayo’s Fairtalk Communications, Breeze FM, a newly licensed commercial radio station which was authorised by the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) to start broadcasting in the resort town early this year, had hoped to start operating in September. However, due to unforeseen reasons which the station has not communicated to their market, it is failing to go on air.

Now, the Victoria Falls community is up in arms with the station’s management for giving them false hope after conducting auditions in May and leaving them hanging.

Victoria Falls Mayor Clr Sifiso Mpofu said they were disappointed with the lack of commitment exhibited by those responsible for Breeze FM.

“Like any other resident of Victoria Falls, I’m disappointed by those people who came to do auditions and disappeared afterwards. We’re still waiting to hear from those responsible for the station,” Clr Mpofu said.

Following BAZ’s recent warning to new commercial radio stations which have failed to meet their set timelines, the disgruntled mayor challenged government to give licences to those who are capable.
