TWO Plumtree siblings stormed into their neighbour’s hut in the early hours of the morning and took turns to rape her before robbing her of R250, a magistrate heard yesterday.

Regional magistrate Chrispen Mberewere heard this when Chance Ngwenya, 30, and his brother Cephas, 32, both from Mlomwe area in Plumtree appeared before him facing four counts of rape each.

The two brothers pleaded not guilty and were remanded in custody to June 17 for trial.

Prosecuting, Tinashe Dzipe said on September 6, 2014, shortly after 9PM, the victim retired to bed and forgot to lock her door. The court heard that at around 1AM, Chance and Cephas sneaked into the complainant’s bedroom while she was asleep.

The two men took turns to rape the woman while threatening to assault her if she screamed.

“After raping the complainant the two brothers then demanded money warning she risked being raped again if she didn’t comply,” said Dzipe.

The court heard that out of fear, the victim gave the two siblings R250 after which they disappeared into the darkness.

The woman later informed her neighbours who teamed up with other local villagers and traced the two brothers’ footprints which led them to Chance’s homestead. The brothers were subsequently arrested while taking a nap at their home. The money they took from their victim was not recovered. The woman was subsequently taken to Plumtree District Hospital for medical examination.
