THE Bulawayo Table Tennis Association (BTTA) will hold its second basic coaching course for local schools on January 15 at the Drill Hall. BTTA technical manager Prosper Jaya said they had settled for the 15th as it was before the start of the schools’ athletics season to avoid disruptions. “We appreciate that athletics is the major first term sports in schools. A lot of schools complained that they weren’t included in the last coaching clinic so we decided to look for a date that will accommodate both schools and tertiary institutions,” Jaya said.

“The higher level the player competes in, the more important his or her physical training becomes. While it’s important to introduce physical training to younger players, it should be done carefully and in a playful way so as not to scare them away.

“In the long run, physical training will naturally become a part of their training regime.” Physical training is divided into four categories, endurance, strength, speed and flexibility.

Among the tertiary institutions set to attend are Nust, Bulawayo Polytechnic College and Hillside Teachers’ College. About 50 coaches attended the last coaching clinic hosted at the same venue in November last year.
