ZANU-PF senior members Cdes Flora Buka and Francis Nhema, who were recently disqualified by the Midlands provincial coordinating committee from participating in the central committee elections, can now take part in the poll after the politburo approved their candidatures.

The two politburo members had been accused of among other issues vote buying and fanning factionalism in the province.

The elections in Gokwe North and Shurugwi districts, which were last week postponed pending investigations, would be held today .

In Gokwe North, Cde Buka would be battling it out with Cdes Edson Chiherenge, Leonard Chikomba, Timire Kapota, Tariro Mutingwende, Tafuma Pangira and Cephas Sindi while in Shurugwi Cde Nhema would be competing with Cdes Simbanenduku Mumbengegwi, Emmanuel Fundira and Timothy Mhuri.

Zanu-PF Midlands provincial spokesperson, Cde Cornelius Mpereri said Cdes Nhema and Buka will participate in today’s elections following the directive from politburo while the chairpersons in  Shurugwi who were allegedly ferried to  Harare for an unsanctioned inter-district meeting by Cde Nhema would also be eligible to vote.

“The decision was made by the politburo to allow Cdes Buka and Nhema to participate in the central committee elections to be held in Gokwe North and Shurugwi tomorrow.

Three people would represent the district in Gokwe North while two people from Shurugwi district would be part of the 31 central committee members to come from Midlands Province,” he said.

Cde Mpereri said Cde Francis Chikwira, a member of the provincial coordinating committee from Gweru district, had also been given the vote of no confidence.

Zanu-PF Midlands Province recently granted a prohibition order against 50 members of the party who were allegedly bussed to Harare by politburo members, Cdes Nhema and Simbarashe Mumbengegwi before receiving bribes to vote for the two ahead of today’s elections.

A prohibition order was issued awaiting disciplinary hearing in terms of Article 10 Section 74 (1) of the party’s constitution.

According to the Zanu-PF constitution, any member against whom the prohibition order is issued shall be barred from participating in any intra-party elections and activities until proven innocent.
